Los Angeles: According to authorities, a shooting that resulted in the temporary lockdown of schools in a hamlet in New Mexico on Monday left at least three people dead and two police officers hurt.
The suspect was “confronted and killed on the scene,” and there is no longer a threat to the public, according to authorities in Farmington, a town of 50,000 people located about 200 miles (320 km) from the state capital Santa Fe.

There were no early details available on where and how the shooting took place.

The Farmington police department made a statement on Facebook that read, “There are numerous civilian victims, including at least three fatalities.”

Two police officers were shot while responding to the gunfire, which included other cops. They are being treated at a hospital, and their status is listed as stable.

The name of the culprit is now unclear as a result of continuing investigations into the occurrences.

Schools in the area momentarily went into lockdown, however they were allowed to reopen early on Monday afternoon, according to Farmington Municipal Schools, who stated that “all students and staff are safe.”

According to the non-governmental group Gun Violence Archive, there have been more than 215 mass shootings in the US this year.
